WaterStiller

The Ancient Shrine is an abandoned Maerum temple grotto near their Third City. The entrance to the cave is obscured by tall seaweed, which April must move to gain access. The temple lies in darkness until April reactivates the lighting by repositioning the crystals she finds in the vicinity of the shrine on the altar.

Once lit, she discovers a series of murals that depict the history of the Maerum from the time they were brought to this world by the Old God, and their common heritage with the Alatien. There is also a prophecy predicting the reunification of the two races.

There is also a small niche covered with a symbol of the Balance and, after opening the niche with the Talisman of the Balance, April discovers the Maerum's piece of the Stone Disk. In opening the shrine and showing it to the Maerum Queen, April proves herself to be the Waterstiller.

MuralsEdit

  • The first mural depicts the coming to Earth of the Blue Kin, carrying his children inside.
  • The second mural depicts the ancestors of the Maerum and Alatien living in the sea and air respectively. April notes they look far more like dragons.
  • The third mural depicts the original state of the Maerum and Alatien: living together in harmony. Tanyenn is in abundance and there are fish enough for all.
  • In the fourth mural, war is joined, and the Maerum and Alatien move away from each other.
  • Their separation leads to a decline in Tanyenn, and fish are scarce. Worse, the Snapjaw are emboldened by the darkness in the absence of Tanyenn, and prey on young Maerum.
  • The final mural depicts a future reunion of the Maerum and Alatien. Tanyenn is plentiful once more and both races prosper.
