Infobox Wizards

We now have fully configured visual infobox editors ("wizards") for all three types of infobox that are actually in use:

  • Character
  • Item
  • Location

This makes it easy for all users to add and modify such infoboxes, regardless of their understanding of wikitext. We have many pages with no infobox which might benefit from one. The wizards can make it easier to fill this gap.

To add an infobox, edit the page where you want to add the box. Use the Visual Editor - the wizard can not be used in the source editor. Navigate to where you want the box to be and select Insert -> Infobox -> "Infobox character" or "Infobox item" or "Infobox location". An input dialog will open, the TemplateWizard. Use it to add one or two properties that you know the value of.…

Old links

In 2014, on Talk:Zoë Maya Castillo, Quna asked what to do with old links. Here is my reply, posted here because it applies to not just that page but all of this wiki, even wikis in general.

It may depend on what a link is supposed to refer to. In general, I think the following is my order of preference:

  • Find a living site with the same content, for example if the site has moved.
  • Find a fully working archive copy, for example at https://web.archive.org. It may take some digging through the archive to find the latest copy where not just the content works (as opposed to 404 "Not found") but also the page design. As an example of such an edit, see https://tlj.fandom.com/wiki/Fringe_Cafe?diff=14646&oldid=14642. If you follow the added link to arch…

Portable infoboxes

To help make this wiki more accessible, in particular on small screens, I and Whittard mt have migrated the infobox templates to the new portable infoboxes format.

  • 1 Why portable infoboxes?
  • 2 Theme "tlj"
  • 3 Migration process
  • 4 Issue: Lowercase "image:" did not work
  • 5 Issue: Infobox images link to the image itself instead of to the image page

The old infobox templates use inline style information to design the infoboxes. This infobox implementation hard-wired content, for example a label such as "Appearances:" and presentation (layout, colors, fonts etc.) with the binding of the parameters (here is an example). This made it hard to change the design, because every infobox template (there are currently about ten in this wiki) contained the style informa…

Maaap!

So obviously you don't come here for the latest Dreamfall Chapters news: I'm pretty lazy about updating things as you may have noticed. Since my last post we've had the move back episodes, PS4-gate and the announcement, retraction and resurrection of the fan music contest (phew!).

But none of that matters, because Wikia have added maaaps! to their functions, and I've been pinning locations onto Ragnar's ancient Arcadia map.

Big ups to new member Whittard mt, too, for a Herculean effort tidying up articles!

Rezzed video with Chapters opening sequence!

Ragnar and Martin were at Rezzed again yesterday and, after showing a few new bits of concept art and a little more of Europolis, they showed the opening sequence of Chapters. HD videos will be up on Monday, presumably as part of a Kickstarter update, but the presentation can be viewed here. Obviously, spoilers abound in the opening sequence. I might wait until that's up to start dissecting. ;)

They also showed the trailer for Draugen, which will be going to Kickstarter soon.

Merry Christmas and Haaawke!

A quick update to share the Dreamfall Chapters Christmas card RTG posted.

This is our first Winter Solstice greeting from Arcadia since 2004. Lap it up, people! :D

We can also inform you that it has now been confirmed Kian will be voiced by Nicholas Boulton, who voiced Garrett Hawke in Dragon Age II.

Journeycon and Friar's Keep playthrough

Tina is going to post about Journeycon, but until then Silje (Skadet) from the forum beat everyone to it! Make sure you read both installments, as they also cover before and after events instigated by Tina. Lots of pics and drunken highjinks to check out! Red Thread also posted their own version of things in a Kickstarter update, and posted pics in a Facebook album.

They shared new concept of Zoe's hospital bed, a spooky room (in the Storytime?), and a screen of some white-boxed structures in the Northlands. Tina also took a pic of the concept art for the proprietor of the Cock and Puss! Note - most importantly - his appropriately embroidered apron.

There's also finally footage of Ragnar and Martin playing through the Friar's Keep vertical s…

TV series, horror game and Facebook pages in the works for RTG

In case you haven't been paying attention (or have been waiting, in vain, for me to keep you updated), here's the big news for RTG and DFC.

Firstly, Ragnar and Dag are set to write the screenplay for a supernatural crime series on Norwegian TV called Underoslo. Regular readers may remember a screen treatment Ragnar posted on his blog in 2003 for a film called The Dark Places, which ended up being fodder for The Secret World (which was, I think, set in the same world). Underoslo sounds like it could be from the same source. It sounds a bit like a Neverwhere style secret world (don't ask me why I didn't just refer back to TSW).

The other, perhaps bigger piece of news is that RTG are developing a first person horror adventure called Draugen, after recei…

    • 1.10 Starstruck?
    • 1.11 Threads

A sequel to The Longest Journey? Could it really be? I had taken to reading Ragnar Törnquist’s blog from time to time, and suddenly one day this, to some people, unimportant little tidbit met my eyes. To a hard-core fan, however, news of a sequel – sorry, spiritual successor – to game of such qualities as The Longest Journey, was no small thing. I’d been waiting to hear what happened to April Ryan since spring of 2000…

More details about Kian's starting area

The Kickstarter page has just been updated to reveal details from the first "vertical slice" of the game. This is when a developer releases a small, playable section of a game. In this case, it takes place in the character of Kian who is trying to escape Friar's Keep. To do so he befriends the Captain and starts a riot. Step 3 is, of course, profit!

Below are some screens from the slice.

Journeycon 2013

This is a little late, but I've been irregular with my updates. Red Thread Games] are hosting a TLJ convention in Oslo on the 23rd of November! As this news is coming to you very late, I'm afraid all of the tickets have sold out (in spite of problems with PayPal), although they tweeted that they might release some more closer to the date on Red Thread's Twitter or Facebook (so keep an eye out!).

For anyone who is unable to go (including this antipodean writer), there will be another Journeycon in November 2014... which is when DFC is due to drop! Maybe it will be a launch party; maybe it will be a launch week. I may have to reconsider whether I can afford to make the long journey over the world (and mine would surely be the longest, coming …

Red Thread show Dreamfall Chapters at Rezzed

Ragnar, Dag and Martin spoke at Rezzed in Birmingham, and showed some more content from DFC.

We saw the full character designs for Mira and Wit, as well as two new characters: Eanu, a Zhid Rebel (who rides a Leapfur!) and The Mole.

There was also a sequence in Europolis, where Wit has tasked Zoe to hack a bot and have it operate as a suicide bomber.

New concept art

Chapters forum live and new admin

The official new forum for Dreamfall Chapters has gone live over at theundreaming.com.

In other news, Tullis has passed the mantle of admin over to me as she has far more awesome things to be doing at her incredible job (can I mention what you do here, Tullis?).

I'm really looking forward to staying on top of all the new DFC content that drips out, and recruiting newbies from the ballooning community over at the forum. Onwards and upwards!

Kickstarter success!

The Kickstarter campaign has finally finished, with a grand total of $1,538,425 in pledges. This means that, while we did not reach the goals to port DFC to iOS portable and Android devices or for TLJH to go into pre-production (yet), we DID reach the goal to get The Director's Cut, with a commentary by Ragnar ('Rag-Comm') and even more content.

Yay!

With PayPal pledges combined it actually comes to about 1.572million, and it will remain open for quite some time.

It's only been 7 years but it's coming, guys. :)

TLJH tells April's story after TLJ

The $2million Kickstarter stretch goal "TLJH" has been revealed as The Longest Journey Home, which tells April's story after TLJ and after DF. Ragnar has said that it will probably get made either way, but who knows how long it might take if we don't fund it now.

DFC hits its target and RTG introduce stretch goals

This is old news by now, but DFC has hit it's Kickstarter target and will be made! Red Thread Games have since introduced a series of stretch goals to get that amount even higher, and there's even one stretch they want fans to decide for them.

In other news, Steam have also put DFC into their Greenlight initiative, so get over there and vote to let Steam know how many people want to see the game!

There has also been another gameplay video and some new info about Europolis.

Sarah Hamilton returns for DFC and the wiki updates with new info

Those following the Kickstarter will have noticed that Sarah Hamilton has returned for DFC, although they're remaining cagey as to what capacity this will be in (I'm fairly certain April will get a substantial outing. :)).

We've also started updating the wiki with all the new info that's trickling out. Spoiler tags are being explored, but until they're up YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ;) - Wandrew (talk) 11:36, February 14, 2013 (UTC)

Kickstarter live!

The Kickstarter for Dreamfall Chapters has gone live. Get pledging, people!

Loads of new info over there, and a great showing so far. At the moment backers have pledged $490,000 of the desired $850,000, and it's only been 2 days! I thought it might be a bit ambitious a sum for too short a time (30 days), but at this rate it's looking good.

Tim Schafer and Chris Avellone have both promoted it on Twitter, so things could definitely happen.

Is this what Zoe looks like now?

Ragnar posted this on his Twitter today, but won't confirm that it's Zoe. Whomever it is, she's clearly been realised in their new engine: she'd look quite out of place in their Shark3D graphics.

First screenshot with launch of Red Thread Games site

The Red Thread Games, designed by Ragnar himself has finally (because we've been waiting for all of 2 and bit months) gone live, and has been christened with the first Dreamfall Chapters screenshot.

As can be seen, the image shows the Journeyman Inn in an Ayredan Autumn, with the Azadi Tower still looming in the background.

This reflects Ragnar's statement that the 3 chapters of the game will take place over 3 seasons, although he did say it would start with Spring. As the discussion over at the Funcom forum has mentioned, DFC is supposed to pick up immediately after DF finished, and the final cutscene took place 3 months after the events of the playable game. Sianna Tors previously argued that the Dreamer launched in late April, placing the…
